Art+Tech. 2024
Running from July 15 to August 15, the Art+Tech programme for the 2024 edition of Abu Dhabi Art was led by two artists — Afra Alsuwaidi and Marina Fedorova — and provided participants with a unique chance to engage in both physical installation creation and augmented reality storytelling. The mixed-media art installation created by programme participants will be showcased at Abu Dhabi Art 2024.
Commissioned by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, Art+Tech is an annual community programme launched in 2017 that helps students explore the limitless possibilities at the intersection of art and technology. It invites established artists from around the world to collaborate with technology and art students from UAE-based universities in a series of workshops. The programme aims to bridge the gap between art and technology in their studies, helping them think outside the box.
In 2024, students collaborated with Afra Al Suwaidi on an installation, learning the process of designing and bringing artwork to life under her artistic vision. Marina Fedorova’s role was to guide students through the process of augmented reality storytelling, enabling them to create an engaging story that brings the artwork to life digitally.
In a series of workshops participants discussed the creative process from the concept to the final installation. As they explored interdisciplinary approaches and new forms of expression, they learned how to combine art and technology with augmented reality tools and develop narratives that enhance the viewer’s experience of the artwork. Collaboration with established artists fostered teamwork and creative exchange.
The culmination of a one-month mentorship programme is the art installation enhanced with digital storytelling that will be introduced at Abu Dhabi Art taking place November 20-24, 2024.
Marina Fedorova’s involvement in the Art+Tech Programme highlights her commitment to pushing the boundaries of art and technology.
